Spring !! Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are!!

The temperature here in Charlottesville, Virginia have been blistering cold. To add insult to injury, the wind has been just down right disrespectful. We encountered a snow storm earlier this week. Four days later we're still trying to recoup. School has been out all week. We're supposed to hit a record low again today. Whippy... Not ! Cabin fever and the need for Vitamin D has us desperately searching for the first and any possible signs of Spring.

In hopeful desires that Spring is located much sooner than later, The Tenth Street Bed and Breakfast is running its "Spring has Sprung" promotion. Mention "Spring has Sprung" to receive $10.00 off a reservation for March 2015. (Minimum of 2 nights stay) Valid February 20, 2015 - March 31, 2015.

Welcome to Virginia

Welcome to Virginia where you can find beautiful arrays of hydrangea, Geraniums, and boxwood hedge gardens all in one place.  Virginia has a historic past that is delicately preserved through luscious and intricate flowers and gardens.  In March of 1918, Virginia adopted the Cornus florida, better known as the American Dogwood to foster a feeling of pride in our state and to simulate an interest in the history and traditions of the Commonwealth.   Virginians have maintained these traditions and engrossed themselves a little more each year in the history as it enriches each Spring.  We celebrate this preservation through an horticultural festival well known as Garden Week. Each April more than 250 gardens, homes, and historical landmarks are displayed during Garden Week,  altogether  uniquely providing another sliver to the rich history and beauty of the state of Virginia.  This year “America’s Largest Open House”  and 80th celebration will begin the 20th day of April 2013 and conclude the 27th day of April 2013.

A time of Remembrance

The Tenth Street Bed and Breakfast would like to extend its warmest regards to the soldiers and their families that
have fought in any war or currently serving to protect our country.  Our hats are off and flags are raised for you.
Have a wonderful and memorable Memorial Day weekend!!

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on the last Monday of May.[1] Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. (Southern ladies organizations and southern schoolchildren had decorated Confederate graves in Richmond and other cities during the Civil War, but each region had its own date. Most dates were in May.) By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.[2] As a marker it typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.
Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.[3]
By the early 20th century, Memorial Day was an occasion for more general expressions of memory, as people visited the graves of their deceased relatives in church cemeteries, whether they had served in the military or not. It also became a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family gatherings, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events such as the Indianapolis 500 auto race, held since 1911 on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.[4] ( Wikipedia.com)
